Paraphrasing

• Writing information from sources in your own sentences
• How?
o Read source
o Take notes—use your own language?
o Write up information using only your notes
o In the end, you will have the same information in your own writing

Quoting

o Mostly, expert opinion
o Maybe also memorable expression
 “To be or not to be”
 “Reuse, Reduce, Recycle”

o A block of text you want to comment on
• What NOT to quote:
o Writing you don’t understand
o Lots of facts and statistics
